The Afro-Sustainable Fashion Initiative, spearheaded by Catharina Natang, a Cameroon-based fashion brand, is dedicated to promoting sustainable fashion and addressing the issue of plastic pollution caused by the fashion industry. They educate designers on the importance of avoiding plastic-based fabrics in clothing production.
As part of their ongoing efforts to support designers in sustainable fashion, the project team organizes various events. One such event is a Training Workshop on Sustainable Fashion, scheduled for August 17th.
This workshop will provide valuable training on sustainable fashion practices, the impact of plastics on the environment, ecosystem, and human health, as well as techniques for redesigning using waste fabric. Additionally, participating designers will receive Certificates of Participation.

During a meeting held on August 13th, Catharina Natang and fashion designers from the Afro-Sustainable Fashion Initiative Network discussed the success of the past Street Fashion Show, which took place on July 29th. The CEOs of House of Trose and Blessing Fashion praised the show’s overall success, including the location choice and the positive interaction with the crowd and passers-by. It was truly an amazing experience.
Catharina Natang commended the designers for their exceptional work and creativity in their designs. She particularly highlighted the participation of designers who were initially unfamiliar with sustainable fashion but still showcased their brands. The meeting also addressed the areas that needed improvement for future shows. Catharina acknowledged the significant support received from authorities, indicating the impact the show had on society.
During the interactive session, the CEO of Ayisi collection expressed interest from individuals in participating in future shows, and Dr. Maboh Michel suggested holding three shows annually. He encouraged designers to participate in upcoming documentaries to showcase their progress and urged their mandatory participation in the upcoming Training Workshop on Sustainable Fashion.

The next street show is planned for October 2023, and designers were encouraged to commit themselves and prepare for it, as well as for the Sustainable Fashion Show in January 2024.
The team leaders, Mrs. Catherine N. Michel Maboh and Dr. Maboh Michel, urged designers to collectively participate in the upcoming launch of the South West Fabric by the Ministry of Arts and Culture to showcase their brands and promote the fabric.
Dr. Maboh Michel reiterated the importance of creating more sustainable fashion designs and announced the upcoming creation of a shop page on the website for designers to showcase and sell their products.

They emphasized the value of collaboration, continuous learning, and mutual assistance among the designers
